I am a guy who wants to follow Jesus and help other people be fruitful in the mission he has given them. While reading books about military special operations, I began to sense a spiritual stirring that led to a paradigm for seeing church ministry, organization and leadership. This concept has become my parable for helping to describe why I, and so many others who want to passionately serve God, cannot find the right fit within the “conventional” church system. My amazing wife, Sheryl and I were recently on the team of church plant on the east side of Tampa, FL. That experience has been a great blessing and we’re now pursuing an invitation we believe God gave us to start a church in Northwest Indiana, where we now live with our three little boys: Ben, Luke and Ethan and our baby girl, Aisling. On this site, I write journal entries and articles in order to articulate this “new,” special operations paradigm for viewing our spiritual service. The explaining and developing of this picture has led to the formation of an organization devoted to helping church leaders and ministries remove the hindrances of conventional church, connect people to the mission of following Jesus and fulfill his charge to be fruitful. This organization is called The Special Forces Group.

I expected that as I put this parable together in various articles people would be gathered, who share this same vision. This is now happening! Maybe you would not have expressed it in these terms, but you too recognize the things written and talked about here as the Holy Spirit’s work in your own life. The Special Forces Group, Inc is a nonprofit ministry committed to helping pastors and churches by equipping them to connect with their people, their mission and their community. Even better, what makes SFG unique is that we don’t require big money! We are working diligently to rally a devoted group of financial supporters that pay the way for this ministry to get into the hands of the people who need it the most. Just like the “real” Special Forces are transforming military thinking and the face of modern warfare, we sense that God has been shaping and equipping people for this unique ministry role. You may fit into The Special Forces Group in one of three ways:
Although you don’t use the military language, the things written here describe you and your passion for the kingdom of God. We are constantly building the network and looking for more ways to match passion and service to real needs.
When you read, all you can think is “I wish we had that at our church,” or “I wish someone could help me this way.” We are committed to finding a way to go anywhere that we can make an impact and with our growing network, help may be closer than you think.
SFG needs supporters. We need people who will be willing to pray diligently for the needs of others. When we learn of needs, we would love to be able to send the requests for prayer to you. We also need financial supporters. The places that need the most help don’t have the money to pay “big ticket” evangelists and consultants. If you believe in building the kingdom of God and you believe that SFG can help, consider giving your money so that we can go, whenever and wherever.
