Defining Allowance

One of my favorite and regular stops on the web is the blog of author, Jim Palmer.  Jim wrote the book, Divine Nobodies, that had such a great impression on me.  He has a post up right now called "Allowance."  I highly recommend taking a look at it.  The discussion that has been forming in the comments section is quite refreshing and interesting as well (ehem... you'll see mine in there too).

Here's the link to the main page of Jim's blog for those of you interested in more from him: www.divinenobodies.com

I read through the post on "allowance". In this sinus-pain induced fog I'm in, I may have to read it a couple more times to actually understand though.

Lisa, I am not in any drug induced fog ;-), and it took me a few reads through Jim Palmer's post to "get" where he was going with it. For me, I think I have grown in "allowance" over the last several years. For me, it has to do with remembering how I did not change overnight when I became a Christian...and therefore I need to *allow* GOD to do that same work in others..OR ME if I need more changing! I have a very good friend who is Catholic. We disagree on a lot of "theology", BUT there is nothing we cannot discuss and it rarely becomes "heated". We both *allow* each other to grow with God in whatever way HE sees fit and in His timing. I have another friend who is Baptist and I agree in theology with her much more than I do the catholic. But, there is no *allowance* there with her..it is a cold wall of "my way or the highway". I don't talk to her much...at least not pertaining to the things of God. Which is the "fruitful" relationship?
